Interacting with people always brings me joy.  Over the past year, I had the opportunity to interact with a diverse and talented group of students, teachers and administrators at West Potomac High School.  My year, as described in this portfolio, was full of ‘ing”: 


o       learning

o       growing

o       applying

o       experimenting

o       adjusting

o       connecting

o       missing

o       retrying

o       organizing

o       challenging

o       comforting

o       caring

o       crying

o       and of course, teaching


Dual certifying in French and ESOL, I was able to interact with many members of a very unique school.  Applying many of the same principles to very different situations, I learned about the similarities of the human, or in this case student, experience.  My students and I learned a great deal from each other, and we all emerge better for the experience. 

I am looking for an opportunity to “ize”:

o       strategize with other teachers to plan effective and consistent lessons

o       energize all of those around me, and be energized in return

o       philosophize with other teachers about the best path, take it, and analyze what I can learn for the next time

o       organize a meaningful year for myself and my students

o       synthesize with the previous experiences of my students, enabling us to journey through our new material with a shared perspective

o       memorize the little details that will make each student feel safe and important in my classroom

o       publicize all goals, be they instructional or behavioral, so that everyone in the classroom is on the same page

o       categorize student learning through holistic rubrics that encourage learning and performing

o       utilize my time with the students to the utmost

o       publicize my students good work, and inform parents and administrators when an individual needs another helping hand

o       galvanize my students, creating lifelong learners
